Our Foundational Christian Beliefs
Holy Bible
We believe that the Bible is inerrant, infallible and God-breathed. The Bible is the final authority for Christian faith and practice. The sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments are the complete and divine written revelation of God to mankind. The Bible is to be interpreted according to historical, grammatical, textual context and within the context of all scripture. (2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Pet. 1:20-21; Hebrews 1:1-2; Deuteronomy 4:1-2; Proverbs 30:5-6; Revelation 22:18-19)
God
We believe that God created the space, time, energy and material which we now refer to as the universe. The universe is not some cosmic accident. It is the divine and intentional work of the Creator. He is the one true uncreated, unlimited, infinite and almighty God, yet in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—coeternal and coequal in unity, glory, majesty, holiness, justice, goodness and love. The universe He created was complete and perfect until the first humans rebelled against God. Now all of creation “groans” because of sin. (Gen. 1-3; Ex. 20:11, Romans 8:22; Matthew 3:16-17; John 6:38-39; John 14:16-18; John 10:30-33; Isaiah 44:24)
God, The Father
We believe that the Father is faithful to His people and His promises. Before the foundation of the world, He chose to redeem those that believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. He set redemption in motion. He sent Jesus and He draws people to Jesus. The Father loves believers with the same love that He has for Jesus. By His grace, believers become children of God and can call Him Father.
(Malachi 3:6; Ephesians 1:3-7; John 3:16-18; John 6:37-39, 44, 65)
God, The Son
We believe Jesus became a man without ceasing to be God. He was born of the virgin Mary, and lived a perfect sinless life, in order that He might reveal Himself and redeem us. He accomplished redemption (for those who believe) through His death on the cross as a voluntary, substitutionary sacrifice. He then defeated death, proving He was who He said, by resurrecting from His grave on the third day. He then met with many people before ascending back into Heaven and He will one day return. He now sits at the right hand of the Father and intercedes on behalf of all believers. He is drawing people to Himself. (John 8:58; Colossians 2:8-9; Philippians 2:5-6; Isa. 7:14; 9:6; Luke1:35; John 1:1-2, 14; 2 Cor. 5:19-21; Gal. 4:4-5; Phil. 2:5-8, John 12:32-33; Acts 2:18-36; Rom. 3:24-25; Eph. 1:7; 1 Pet. 2:24; 1 Peter 1:3-5, Acts 1:9-10; Rom. 8:34; Ephesians 1; Heb. 7:24-25; 9:24; 1John 2:1-2; Matt. 24:27, 44; Hebrews 9:28; John 1:1-3, 14; Col. 1:15-17)
God, the Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit draws people to Christ and enables them to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. He supernaturally baptizes all believers into the body of Christ, indwelling and sealing them unto the day of redemption. He empowers believers to live the Christian life. He comforts believers and helps them pray. The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. He helps believers to understand and apply the Scriptures. It is the privilege and duty of all believers to be filled with the Spirit. (John 14:16-18; Acts 5:3-4; 1 Corinthians 2:10-13 ; Acts 7:51; 1 Corinthians 12:3; Ephesians 1:13-14; John 16:8-11; Romans 8:9, 26-27; 1 Corinthians 12:12-14; Ephesians 5:18; 1 John 2:20, 27)
Humans
We believe that God created man and woman, both unique and distinct one from another, both in the image and likeness of God and both given an eternal living soul, for the glory of God. The first humans, Adam and Eve, had perfect fellowship with God; but when the first man sinned against God, the human race fell, becoming alienated from God and inheriting a sinful nature. The fall of mankind is the reason for sin and death in our world. Even when humans attempt to do good, they are tainted by their sins and a heart that does not fully love God. Without the Holy Spirit drawing people to faith in Christ, they remain lost in their sins, utterly unable to remedy their lost condition. Every human, although flawed, is uniquely created, has intrinsic value, and is worthy of respect and love from other humans. Every individual is personally responsible before God for their beliefs and actions. (Gen.1:26-27; Rom. 3:22-23; 5:12; 6:23; Eph. 2:1-3; 4:17-19; Matthew 12:36; 2 Corinthians 5:10)
Redemption
We believe that sinners can be forgiven of their sins and redeemed to God through the perfect shed blood of Jesus. Jesus, the sinless Son of God, carried the burden of sin and took the wrath of God upon himself in our place. This gift of salvation can freely be received by the grace of God, by repenting of our sinful state and placing our complete faith in Jesus, believing in His deity, death, burial and resurrection. No one can gain redemption through any amount of good or religious works. It is Christ alone that can redeem sinners. Without Jesus, we will face eternal separation from the glory of God and face the eternal torments of hell. With Jesus, we will spend eternity with God and all the saints (all other believers in history) in the new heaven and the new earth. (Eph. 1:7; 2:8-10; Romans 10:9-13; Hebrews 10:10-12; Matt. 12:31-32; John 1:12; 1 Pet.1:18-19; 1 John 1:9)
Believers
We believe that Christians, having been redeemed to God through Jesus, have received the Holy Spirit can go directly to God in prayer. They are all called to serve God with their lives. Believers have been saved from the penalty of sin, are being saved from the power of sin, and will one day be saved from the presence of sin. Genuine believers are not perfect and Jesus intercedes on their behalf when they sin; but, a genuine believer will live a life that flees from sin, pursues righteousness and repents when they fail. For the Christian, every decision made and belief held, should be filtered through and refined by God’s Word. Christians are to keep themselves separated from false teachers and from the lusts of this world.
(Matthew 12:36, 1 Corinthians 5:10; 1 Peter 2:5-9; Hebrews 4:14-16; 1 Timothy 2:5; Romans 16:17-18; 2 Corinthians 6:14-18; Rom. 12:1-2;14:13; 1 Cor. 6:19-20; 2 Tim. 3:1-5; 1 John 2:15-17; 2 John 9-11; Gal. 2:20; Phil. 1:6; 2 Corinthians 5:17; John 17:17)
Love
We believe that love should be demonstrated toward others, not only toward fellow believers, but also toward those who are not believers, those who oppose us, and those who engage in sinful actions. We are to deal with those who oppose us graciously, gently, patiently, and humbly, but without compromising the truth of God’s Word. God forbids the intentional stirring up of strife, the taking of revenge, or the threat or use of violence as a means of resolving personal conflict or obtaining personal justice. Although God commands us to abhor sinful actions, we are to love and pray for any person who engages in such sinful actions. (Lev. 19:18; Matt. 5:44-48; Luke 6:31; John 13:34-35; Rom. 12:9-10;17-21; 13:8-10; Phil. 2:2-4; 2 Tim. 2:24-26; Titus 3:2; 1 John 3:17-18)
